Air Canada Rouge Unveils Upgraded Cabins on 737 MAX 8 Debut
Air Canada Rouge has launched its inaugural Boeing 737 MAX 8, marking a significant upgrade in its cabin experience. This move is part of the airline’s broader strategy to draw more leisure travelers to its services.
Introduction of the Boeing 737 MAX 8
The first Boeing 737 MAX 8 flight took off on March 5 from Vancouver, with routes to Edmonton International Airport and Kelowna. This aircraft is the first of 45 planned for deployment within Rouge by year-end.
Investment in Cabin Enhancements
In a bid to improve customer experience, Rouge’s cabin renewal program emphasizes comfort, connectivity, and consistency. Notable enhancements include:
- Free onboard WiFi, sponsored by Bell.
- Personal seatback entertainment systems.
- Reclining seats across all classes.
Mark Nasr, Executive Vice President and Chief Operations Officer at Air Canada, expressed the goal of ensuring that all passengers feel a sense of comfort and care when flying Rouge. The improvements aim to create a modernized travel experience with cutting-edge amenities.
New Vancouver Crew Base
As part of its expansion, Air Canada Rouge will establish a dedicated crew base in Vancouver. This will enable additional routes servicing leisure destinations:
- Cancun
- Edmonton
- Kelowna
- Las Vegas
- Los Angeles
- Mexico City
- Miami
- Puerto Vallarta
- San Jose del Cabo
Service from Calgary International Airport will also include nonstop flights to Cancun and Puerto Vallarta, enhancing travel options for Canadians.

The 737 MAX 8 will feature a total of 177 seats, distributed as follows:

Continued Fleet Enhancements

- Twenty-three Airbus A220-300s with options for ten additional units.
In the transition, Rouge will phase out its Airbus A319-100 and shift to the state-of-the-art Boeing 737 MAX 8. This strategic pivot signals a new era for Air Canada Rouge as it enhances its service offerings in leisure travel across North America and the Caribbean.
