Concerned Aunt Rachel: Family in the Woods Can’t Live Without Mom
The recent birthday celebration of twins belonging to the so-called “family in the woods” has drawn significant attention. The children turned seven and celebrated at a care home in Vasto. Present at the gathering were their father, Nathan, their grandmother, Pauline, and their Aunt Rachel. This occasion was bittersweet as it was held away from their home in the woods near Palmoli, referred to as “Amelia.”
Twins’ Birthday Celebration
The twins celebrated their special day at the care facility where they have been living since November 20. While balloons and decorations filled the room, the presence of family members who traveled from Australia brought some joy to the event. A special permit allowed Aunt Rachel and Grandma Pauline to spend half a day with the children and enjoy a reunion lunch with Nathan.
Emotional Challenges
Aunt Rachel shared insights into the emotional state of the twins during an interview with UnoMattina News. She described the shared meal as a “gift,” yet emphasized that the circumstances remain challenging. The twins continue to experience anxiety.
- One twin, Galorian, has been having nightmares and often wakes up crying for his mother.
- The other twin exhibits a tendency to withdraw during family interactions, suggesting a wish to escape.
Upcoming Psychological Evaluation
On March 6, a psychological assessment will begin as mandated by the Tribunal for Minors of L’Aquila. This evaluation will involve both twins and will take place over two days at the care home.
- The assessment will be carried out by appointed psychiatrist Simona Ceccoli.
- A defense psychiatrist, Tonino Cantelmi, will also be present to oversee the process.
Results from this evaluation are expected to be delivered within 60 days. The family’s living situation remains uncertain; the owner of the property, Armando Carusi, plans to continue renting it for only one more year despite offers of support from a foundation.
Concerns for the Twins’ Future
Aunt Rachel expressed deep concerns regarding the possibility of the twins remaining separated from their mother. She stated, “They could never live without their mom. I can’t imagine what would happen if that occurred.”
This poignant situation highlights the importance of family unity, especially for the emotional well-being of young children. The “family in the woods” continues to navigate their complex circumstances while under the watchful eye of professionals.
