Ugochukwu & Mini Excel in Formula 2 and 3 Racing
Ugochukwu and Mini demonstrated exceptional skill during the opening sessions of Formula 2 and Formula 3, respectively. Ugochukwu continued his impressive performance from New Zealand, leading the Formula 3 practice session with a noteworthy lap time.
Ugochukwu’s Dominance in Formula 3
In the one-hour practice session, Ugochukwu recorded a time of 1:34.607. This performance set him apart from competitors, finishing four-tenths ahead of Brando Badoer and Noah Stromsted. Notably, Ugochukwu was the only driver to break into the 1m34s bracket.
Aussie Competitors
James Wharton, returning to Prema, was the top Australian driver in 17th place, trailing about one second behind the leading pace. Following a solid debut season, he aims to improve his standing after shifting from ART.
Adding to the Australian presence in Formula 3, Patrick Heuzenroeder stepped in as an injury replacement at Campos. In his first outing on the Albert Park circuit, he had some challenges but completed 16 laps, finishing in 28th position.
Challenges and Incidents during Practice
The session was marked by multiple off-track incidents involving drivers like Gerrard Xie and Yevan David. The practice ended prematurely due to an incident involving Mattia Colnaghi, whose car caught fire on the main straight.
Mini Excels in Formula 2
In Formula 2, Gabriele Mini stood out by posting a remarkable time of 1:29.137. His performance placed him four-tenths ahead of competitors Noel Leon and Rafael Camara, showcasing his dominance in the practice session.
Other Incidents
Colton Herta’s debut in Formula 2 did not go as planned. He lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the wall at Turn 10. This left him with only eight laps completed before heading into qualifying.
Tasanapol Inthraphuvisak also encountered difficulties, having a separate incident at Turn 12 where he rear-ended the wall.
Upcoming Qualifying Sessions
Qualifying for both Formula 3 and Formula 2 is scheduled for the same afternoon. Formula 3 qualifying will commence at 14:00, followed by Formula 2 at 14:55. The anticipation builds as drivers aim to secure their positions for the upcoming races.
