CrossFit has named Dr. Mark Sakr as the new Medical Director for the CrossFit Games. This appointment follows a comprehensive search that started in December, aimed at finding a successor for Dr. Michael Ray, the former director.

Dr. Mark Sakr’s Responsibilities as Medical Director

In his new role, Dr. Sakr will manage several essential responsibilities, which include:

  • Coordinating medical staffing and monitoring safety compliance.
  • Collaborating with the CrossFit Safety Advisory Board.
  • Overseeing on-site triage during the Games.

Background and Experience

Dr. Sakr brings extensive expertise to his new position. He currently serves as the Director of Medical Services and Head Team Physician at the University of Arizona. Additionally, he is the Medical Director and Team Physician for the USA Rugby team. It remains unclear if he will maintain these roles while serving as the Medical Director for the CrossFit Games.

His previous experience includes acting as Head Team Physician at both Georgia State University and Robert Morris University, which highlights his solid background in sports medicine.

Despite his impressive credentials, Dr. Sakr has no recorded participation in the CrossFit Open. Nevertheless, his appointment marks a significant commitment to improving medical oversight for the Games.
