Qatar Airways Flight Status in Focus as Middle East Airspace Closures Leave Hundreds of Thousands Stranded
The U. S. -Israel attack on Iran has triggered sweeping airspace closures that have halted operations at major Gulf hubs and left hundreds of thousands of travellers scrambling. Qatar Airways Flight Status has become a central concern for passengers routed through Doha as airlines suspend services and governments weigh evacuations.
Dubai International Airport and damage to landmarks
Dubai International Airport, one of the world’s busiest for international traffic, was forced to stop operations after the United Arab Emirates announced a "temporary and partial closure" of its airspace; flight-tracking service FlightRadar24 said there were no flights over the UAE following that announcement. Iran’s retaliatory strikes directly struck international facilities: Dubai’s airport and the Burj Al Arab hotel sustained damage and four people were injured. In Dubai travellers reported hearing fighter jets overhead and an explosion when the Fairmont Palm Hotel was hit by a missile strike.
Qatar Airways Flight Status and hub suspensions
Doha’s Hamad International Airport joined Dubai and Abu Dhabi in suspending operations as Emirates, Qatar Airways and Etihad halted services through the region. Aviation analytics firm Cirium estimated that the three carriers typically handle about 90, 000 passengers a day through those hubs; Cirium also noted that at least 90, 000 people change flights daily across Dubai, Doha and Abu Dhabi on those airlines. With all three carriers grounded, passengers routed through Doha have faced widespread cancellations and uncertainty about onward travel.
UK evacuation plans for more than 76, 000 British nationals
The UK is planning one of the largest evacuations in its history after more than 76, 000 British citizens registered their presence in affected areas of the Middle East. More than two-thirds of those registered are believed to be in the UAE, and UK officials say the count is expected to rise. The Foreign Office has advised people to follow local instructions, particularly to shelter where directed, and is examining evacuation options that could include movement by different routes at a later date — an operation officials have described as an enormous logistical task.
Flight cancellations and tracking notices from FlightRadar24 and FlightAware
Disruption metrics vary by tracker: one count put cancellations at more than 3, 400 flights across seven main Middle Eastern airports on Sunday, while a flight-tracking service listed more than 2, 800 cancellations to and from airports across the region that same day. FlightRadar24 said a new notice to airmen extended the closure of Iranian airspace until at least 8: 30am UK time on Tuesday, amplifying the immediate downstream impact on international schedules. International airports in London, Mumbai, Delhi, Bangkok, Istanbul, Sri Lanka and Paris each reported dozens of cancelled flights tied to the regional shutdown.
Passengers, stranded hotels and jammed communications
Tourists and business travellers crowded airports and hotels as online booking portals and airline phone lines became overwhelmed. Many travellers could not get updated flight information from tour operators or Emirates, which suspended flights to and from Dubai until at least Monday afternoon. In Dhaka, Mohammad Abdul Mannan told officials at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport that he needed to reach the Middle East to work; he said his primary concern was how to travel to earn a living. In Dubai, Louise Herrle and her husband had their flight to Washington canceled on their way back to Pittsburgh after touring Dubai and Abu Dhabi and said they planned to remain in their hotel room until they had confirmed onward travel.
