Why Hailee Steinfeld Skipped the 2026 Actor Awards
Hailee Steinfeld skipped the Actor Awards this evening as she and husband Josh Allen prepare to welcome their first child, a choice she framed as part of an inward focus in a recent newsletter.
Hailee Steinfeld wrote that pregnancy has turned inward
Steinfeld, who is weeks away from becoming a first-time mother, wrote in her newsletter that “the most profound and grounding part of getting ready for this baby has been the introspective side of it: the quiet conversations I’m having with myself almost every day. ” She added that she has been daydreaming about life with “the three of us” cuddled in the nursery and called the feeling hard to put into words.
She is nominated alongside the cast of Sinners, but likely did not attend the Actor Awards because of the imminent arrival of her baby.
She showed her baby bump in recent photos and newsletter posts
On Feb. 25 Steinfeld posted photos that put her baby bump on display, sitting on a kitchen counter in a cropped sweater and shorts and sharing a black-and-white image from the side that gave a full view of her belly. In the Feb. 27 issue of her Beau Society newsletter she described spending months in an “in-between stage of pregnancy” when changes were happening but not yet obvious to others.
In the newsletter she also wrote about small comforts lately—keeping nails short, wearing elastic-waist pants and sweatpants that look like jeans, and finding energy to dress up for dinners now that she has “finally rounded the corner. ”
Golden Globes appearance, Allen’s playoff timing and family notes
Steinfeld last stepped out publicly at the Golden Globes in January, cradling her baby bump in a pink Prada gown and wearing Repossi jewelry. She attended the Globes alone because Allen was competing in a playoff game that same evening.
Allen has talked openly about preparing to be a father, saying he has siblings with children and friends who are parents and that you “can’t plan too far in advance. ” He added he’s “very much looking forward” to becoming a dad and called it the most important role he will ever have.
