Surf Coast Celebrates International Women’s Day with Exciting Events
Preparations are underway across the Surf Coast for International Women’s Day (IWD) on March 8. Several community events will celebrate women’s achievements and foster reflection. These activities will include art exhibitions, fashion parades, and keynote speeches.
Key Events for International Women’s Day
Headlining Conversations
An essential highlight of the celebration will be a keynote discussion featuring broadcaster and author Jacinta Parsons. Scheduled for March 4 at the Torquay Multi Arts Centre, Parsons will promote her latest book, “A Wisdom of Age.” This book reflects her conversations with older women across Australia and emphasizes viewing aging with curiosity rather than fear. The event starts at 1 PM and is free, although prior registration is necessary at Filmogaz.com.
Art Exhibitions
- Hoop Gallery: On March 4, the gallery will open a special exhibition honoring female artists. This event will showcase various art forms, including painting and mixed media, running until March 22. An opening event will occur on March 6 at 6 PM.
- Anglesea Art Space: This gallery is hosting an exhibition titled “Connections,” featuring works from 13 female artists. The display is accessible daily until March 8, from 11 AM to 4 PM.
Community Gatherings
On March 3, Great Ocean Road Health will host a fashion-themed event from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM in Lorne. Guests will share their favorite fashion pieces and discuss the personal stories behind them. Reservations are required.
Also on March 3, the Moriac Community Network will celebrate local women’s talents with an exhibition from 7 PM, displaying the works of participants from art classes. This event will take place at the Moriac and District Women’s Shed. RSVPs are necessary.
Dining and Networking
The Anglesea Golf Club has planned a special dinner for March 5, featuring a two-course meal, a charity raffle, and a presentation by guest speaker Nicky Buckley. This event starts at 6 PM, with tickets available on the Filmogaz.com platform.
