Connor Storrie Hosts ‘Saturday Night Live’ — connor storrie Debuts Feb. 28
connor storrie made his debut as the host of Saturday Night Live on Feb. 28, with English band Mumford & Sons serving as the evening’s musical guest. The show included sketches featuring his Heated Rivalry co-star Hudson Williams, a monologue that welcomed members of Team USA hockey, and embedded video highlights from the broadcast.
Connor Storrie: Opening monologue
Storrie opened the show with a monologue in which he welcomed members of the Team USA men’s and women’s hockey teams: Jack Hughes and Quinn Hughes from the men’s team, and Hilary Knight and Megan Keller from the women’s team. The appearance underscored that Storrie’s hit show Heated Rivalry is about hockey. And love!
Olympic gold medalists exchange
After the Olympic gold medalists appeared, starting with Knight and Keller, they told Storrie, "Don't worry, we saw your show. " Storrie replied, "Oh, wow. Hilary, Megan, it’s so cool that we’re all here. " Knight added, "It was gonna be just us, but we thought we’d invite the guys, too. " That comment was an allusion to the infamous viral moment of Donald Trump telling the men’s hockey team that he would invite them to the White House.
Sketches with Hudson Williams
Hudson Williams made a surprise appearance and shared the stage with Storrie in multiple sketches. The pair were in a comedy skit featuring a failed proposal at Rockefeller Center; behind the couple there was a group of guys enjoying the rink, including Storrie and Williams on skates. Williams also helped Storrie introduce Mumford & Sons, and the two could be seen standing side-by-side at the end of the show, sharing an embrace.
Accents and character work
Storrie’s role on Heated Rivalry was hinted at throughout the broadcast. He showed off a Russian accent he uses for his Heated Rivalry character, Ilya Rozanov, in a sketch where he plays a Russian stripper having a really rough night. Storrie also displayed his skill in an accent duel during the episode.
Mumford & Sons close the night
English band Mumford & Sons served as the evening’s musical guest and were introduced onstage with help from Williams and Storrie. The broadcast package accompanying coverage included video embeds to watch highlights from the night’s show.
On Heated Rivalry, Williams and Storrie play rival hockey players who engage in a secret love affair for over a decade. The popular show has skyrocketed both stars to fame in the past few months, and in real life the two are very close friends.
connor storrie’s SNL debut on Feb. 28 combined his television persona, supporting appearances from Hudson Williams, cameo appearances by Team USA hockey players, and a musical set from Mumford & Sons in a single episode that threaded together hockey, comedy and character work.
