Kaye Adams to Leave Bbc Scotland Role After Internal Investigation Upholds Some Complaints

Kaye Adams will not return to her Scotland programme after an internal investigation into workplace conduct that followed complaints from colleagues. The decision ends her role amid upheld allegations and comes as the broadcaster maintains its current presenting line-up.

Kaye Adams and the Mornings With programme

Adams, 63, was taken off the air last October and suspended from her morning show, Mornings With on Radio Scotland, after an internal complaint about her conduct. She has said she was contacted for comment and in October described her name as having been "dragged through the mud, " adding that the corporation had not provided her with the detailed allegations against her.

Investigation findings and upheld complaints

The internal inquiry concluded that some complaints against Adams were upheld while others were not substantiated. Complaints under review included allegations that she shouted and swore at colleagues, used an "abhorrent swear word" at a colleague, threw a pen at a producer in frustration over an upcoming show and berated an intern about their ability to do their job. Adams denied wrongdoing and said her workplace "assertiveness" had been mistaken for bullying.

Victoria Easton Riley's concerns at Pacific Quay

Radio Scotland's head of audio and events, Victoria Easton Riley, became concerned after witnessing Adams's behaviour during a routine staff meeting at the broadcaster's Pacific Quay headquarters in Glasgow last year. After speaking to other members of staff who worked on Adams's programme, additional complaints emerged and the presenter was suspended; investigators examined her conduct over many years. An internal source said, "There is no way back for Kaye now. "

Radio Scotland line-up and the corporation's response

The corporation has said it will not comment on individuals or internal processes, and confirmed that Adams will not return to her presenting role. In the immediate future Connie McLaughlin will present Mornings With on Mondays to Wednesdays, with Stephen Jardine presenting on Thursdays and Fridays. The broadcaster also reiterated it would keep the presenter's roster unchanged for now.

Career background, salary and the Call it Out scheme

Born in Falkirk, Adams has worked as a journalist and presenter for nearly 40 years. She joined Scotland in 2010 to host Call Kaye, a daily phone-in programme that ended in 2015, and later fronted The Kaye Adams Show before hosting Mornings With. She has also been a regular panellist on the talk show Loose Women. The presenter’s role has been reported as a £155, 000-a-year position.

Last year the broadcaster introduced the "Call it Out" scheme to enable staff to challenge and report poor behaviour in the workplace. The scheme was set up following an independent report into workplace culture that found a small number of stars and managers "behave unacceptably" and that bosses sometimes fail to tackle them; it was established in the wake of controversy involving MasterChef hosts Gregg Wallace and John Torode. Some complaints against Adams were raised under that scheme.

What makes this notable is that the decision combines findings from an internal investigation with a broader, recently reinforced system for staff complaints, illustrating how new reporting mechanisms are influencing personnel outcomes. The direct cause—complaints and an ensuing internal inquiry—led to suspension in October and to the final determination that Adams will not return to her programme, while the effect has been an immediate reshuffle of presenters and an emphasis on workplace-reporting procedures across the organisation.
