Naacp Awards 2026: ‘Sinners’ Cruises to Nine Wins as Creative Honors Close Out Week
The week-long rollout for the 57th NAACP Image Awards continued at the Creative Honors on Thursday, Feb. 26, when Ryan Coogler’s Sinners picked up four more trophies — a haul that has pushed the film’s total to nine wins as the naacp awards 2026 build toward the live telecast Saturday.
Naacp Awards 2026 Creative Honors lift Sinners and its creators
At the Creative Honors ceremony, Coogler won outstanding writing and outstanding directing in a motion picture, while Wunmi Mosaku and Delroy Lindo took home the supporting actress and supporting actor awards, respectively. Those four Creative Honors wins followed earlier victories for Sinners on Wednesday, when the film’s ensemble — including Michael B. Jordan and Hailee Steinfeld — won outstanding ensemble cast in a motion picture and the picture also secured awards for outstanding cinematography and outstanding stunt ensemble.
Published tallies show Sinners was nominated across the week and has now amassed nine wins so far; the film had been nominated in a sweeping slate of categories. The Creative Honors ceremony presented awards across 25 categories in film, television and documentaries and was hosted by Kevin “KevOnStage” Fredericks and Angel Laketa Moore.
Other Creative Honors winners and weeklong results
Abbott Elementary won three awards at the Creative Honors, while Number One on the Call Sheet, Straw and The Don Lemon Show each won two. The Creative Honors night also included a tribute honoring Angie Stone and D’Angelo performed by Jane Handcock and BJ the Chicago Kid, followed by a performance from Mali Music. Rev. Dr. Jamal-Harrison Bryant received the Mildred Bond Roxborough Social Justice Impact Award, and Dr. Mary Anne Franks was presented with the NAACP-Archewell Digital Civil Rights Award.
The Creative Honors capped three nights of virtual awards earlier in the week. On Wednesday, in addition to Sinners’ ensemble, Gracie’s Corner, Ironheart, Straw and Celebrity Family Feud each won multiple awards. Tuesday’s virtual show saw Cardi B win outstanding female artist, outstanding album for Am I the Drama? and outstanding hip-hop/rap song for “ErrTime, ” while Kendrick Lamar won outstanding male artist and outstanding music video/visual album for “Luther. ” Monaleo won outstanding new artist, and Sinners claimed outstanding soundtrack/compilation album and outstanding original score for TV/film on Tuesday. The Don Lemon Show and IMO With Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson each won two podcast awards. On Monday, The Apple Music Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show Starring Kendrick Lamar won outstanding short-form series or special — reality/nonfiction/documentary.
Other single-category winners across the week included Being Eddie for outstanding documentary (film) and the late Malcolm-Jamal Warner for outstanding guest performance for Murder in a Small Town; Warner died on July 20 at age 54 from drowning after being caught in a strong current.
Live show looming: honors, hosts and what’s next
The week culminates with the live presentation of the 57th NAACP Image Awards on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 8 p. m. ET/PT, broadcast on BET and CBS and across Paramount networks, with Deon Cole returning as host from the Pasadena Civic Auditorium. Special honors scheduled for the live show include Viola Davis receiving the Chairman’s Award, Colman Domingo receiving the President’s Award, Salt‑N‑Pepa and DJ Spinderella being inducted into the Image Awards Hall of Fame, and A$ Rocky receiving the Vanguard Award for fashion. The final awards to be presented at the live telecast include Entertainer of the Year, for which nominees are Cynthia Erivo, Doechii, Kendrick Lamar, Michael B. Jordan and Teyana Taylor.
Deon Cole has said the ceremony will address a disruption that took place at a recent prerecorded ceremony, calling the incident “terrible” and promising it will be dealt with on the live show. The telecast Friday evening will determine the remaining winners and close out naacp awards 2026 week.
