Bbc presenter Kaye Adams axed from £155,000-a-year radio show after three misconduct complaints upheld
bcc Kaye Adams will not return to her Scotland programme after a disciplinary probe upheld three misconduct complaints against her, a decision that ends her regular role on Mornings With and prompts an immediate presenter reshuffle.
Probe found three complaints upheld, two bullying complaints rejected
A disciplinary investigation concluded that three complaints against Adams were upheld while two separate complaints of bullying were not upheld. The probe found she had been guilty of inappropriate behaviour that included swearing at a colleague, lobbing a pen at a producer and berating an intern's professional ability. One incident is said to have involved the use of the offensive c-word more than a decade ago and reportedly led the person targeted to refuse to work on the show that day.
Details of on-air disruption and staff briefing
Staff who worked on Mornings With were briefed a week ago that they should not expect Adams to return. In one episode of disruption a colleague was asked to step in minutes before the show was due to go on air. A former colleague described a long-running pattern of difficult behaviour, saying senior producers had acknowledged how hard she could be but had done little to protect the team; the former colleague added that tears were common and "stress levels [were] through the roof, for everyone. "
Career timeline: 15 years at Scotland and earlier shows
Adams, 63, worked at Scotland for 15 years and was suspended on October 7 last year after an internal complaint about her conduct on Mornings With on Radio Scotland. She initially joined Scotland in 2010 to host Call Kaye, which ended in 2015, and later fronted The Kaye Adams Show and Mornings With. She is a mother of two.
Scotland confirms presenter line-up for the immediate future
A spokesman for Scotland said: "With regard to the presentation line up on Mornings With, Kaye Adams will not be returning to this role. In the immediate future Connie McLaughlin will continue to present Mornings With on Mondays to Wednesdays, with Stephen Jardine presenting on Thursdays and Fridays. " The corporation added it would not comment on individuals or internal processes.
Replacement plans, public profile and personal strain
bosses have lined up broadcaster and DJ Grant Stott as a replacement for the show. Adams remains a regular panellist and presenter on Loose Women, which previously said it was standing by her. Many fellow presenters have publicly offered support since her suspension, including Denise Welch and Nadia Sawalha. She also hosts a weekly podcast, How to Be 60, with Karen MacKenzie, and last month admitted she had lost weight and "hadn't felt like eating" while the corporation investigated.
Workplace changes and the corporation’s reporting scheme
Last year the corporation launched a "Call it Out" scheme to enable staff to challenge and report poor behaviour. That initiative was introduced in response to an independent report into workplace culture which found a small number of stars and managers "behave unacceptably" and that bosses sometimes fail to tackle them.
The presenter line-up for Mornings With is set for the immediate future with Connie McLaughlin on Mondays to Wednesdays and Stephen Jardine on Thursdays and Fridays, and Grant Stott identified to step into the role as changes are finalised.
