Kaye Adams will not return to BBC Scotland radio role after investigation
kaye adams, 63, will not be returning to her Scotland programme after she was taken off Mornings With last October following an internal complaint; The Times has now said some complaints were upheld while others were rejected.
Kaye Adams removed from Mornings With
The corporation confirmed that Adams will not return to Mornings With on Radio Scotland. A spokesman for Scotland said the presenter line-up will remain the same "in the immediate future, " with Connie McLaughlin presenting on Mondays to Wednesdays and Stephen Jardine on Thursdays and Fridays. The also said it would not comment on individuals or internal processes and a Scotland spokesperson told staff: "We do not comment on individuals. "
Allegations, suspension and investigation
Adams was suspended from her morning programme in October after an internal complaint about her conduct. The National has stated that the presenter was investigated over allegations that she bullied co-workers, including accusations she shouted and swore at colleagues. Some complaints were upheld while others were not substantiated, the reporting says.
The allegations outlined in the coverage include the use of an "abhorrent swear word" at a colleague, throwing a pen at a producer in frustration and berating an intern about their ability to do their job. Adams denied wrongdoing and said her "assertiveness" in the workplace had been mistaken for bullying. The Times: "There is no way back for Kaye now. "
How concerns reached investigators
Coverage says Radio Scotland’s head of audio and events, Victoria Easton Riley, became concerned after witnessing Adams’s behaviour at a routine meeting at the broadcaster’s Pacific Quay headquarters in Glasgow last year. The account says Riley then spoke to other members of staff working on Adams’s programme, and "the floodgates then broke" before the presenter was suspended. The investigation is described as looking at Adams’s behaviour over many years.
Salary figure and career highlights
The National reported that Adams was earning £155, 000 a year for the role she has now left. Adams was born in Falkirk and has worked as a journalist and presenter for nearly 40 years. She joined Scotland in 2010 to host Call Kaye, which ended in 2015, and later fronted The Kaye Adams Show and Mornings With. She has also been a regular panellist on the ITV talk show Loose Women.
Workplace reporting scheme and wider context
Last year the corporation launched the "Call it Out" scheme to enable staff to challenge and report poor behaviour in the workplace. The scheme came in response to an independent report into workplace culture at the broadcaster that found a small number of stars and managers "behave unacceptably" and that bosses fail to tackle them. The National noted that some complaints against Adams were raised under the Call it Out scheme and that the initiative followed controversy involving MasterChef hosts Gregg Wallace and John Torode.
In October Adams said her name had been "dragged through the mud" and said the corporation had not given her the details of the allegations. The has stated its immediate presenter plan for Mornings With: Connie McLaughlin will continue Monday to Wednesday and Stephen Jardine will present Thursday and Friday while the broadcaster keeps the line-up the same in the immediate future.
