Bill Clinton Deposition and Boebert Photo Leak in House Probe
Rep. Lauren Boebert defended sharing a picture of Hillary Clinton taken before a closed-door deposition, saying she had permission from committee staff. The exchange unfolded as the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee continues its inquiry tied to Jeffrey Epstein and as Bill Clinton prepares to appear; the bill clinton deposition is expected Friday.
Boebert’s explanation and permission
Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo. ) said she shared the image with right-wing podcaster Benny Johnson after receiving permission from the committee’s staff. Boebert said the picture had been taken before the hearing began and that Johnson then posted the image on social media.
What Boebert told Chris Cuomo
In an interview with Chris Cuomo on Thursday, Boebert deflected blame to Democratic committee members who provided updates to reporters. She said, "However, there were Democrats and those at the minority party that were releasing information about the hearing throughout the day, topics that were discussed were being leaked to the media. " She added, "And so there was a lot of things that were coming out of that room, but regardless, it was a photo. "
Committee response on photos
Boebert said committee members later agreed that no one would take photos during the deposition. The deposition itself was closed-door before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee and had produced the disputed image.
Hillary Clinton’s deposition details
The committee subpoenaed Hillary Clinton’s testimony as part of its probe into convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The former secretary of state repeatedly denied any knowledge about Epstein’s crimes during her six-hour deposition in Chappaqua, N. Y. She told reporters she only knew Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s associate who was convicted on sex trafficking crimes, "casually as an acquaintance. " The former secretary of state and former president Clinton had battled for months with the committee about the deposition.
Bill Clinton Deposition scheduled Friday
Bill Clinton is set to testify before the committee Friday. The former president previously addressed his relationship with Epstein and his inclusion on flight logs in a 2024 memoir. He wrote, "Traveling on Epstein’s plane was not worth the years of questioning afterward, " and added, "I wish I had never met him. "
The Clintons, who have not been accused of any wrongdoing, spoke with congressional investigators after months of back and forth over their willingness to testify. The image-sharing dispute, the committee's subpoena, Hillary Clinton’s six-hour testimony in Chappaqua, N. Y., and Bill Clinton’s planned appearance Friday comprise the full sequence of events described in the deposition matter.
