Katie Taylor to retire after Dublin farewell and is hoping for Croke Park send-off

katie taylor, 39, has confirmed she will retire after one final fight in Dublin this summer, saying she wants a home farewell after retaining her undisputed status with a trilogy victory over Amanda Serrano at Madison Square Garden in New York last July.

Katie Taylor eyes Croke Park send-off

Taylor told RTE Sport she is "hanging on to a bit of hope" that the fight can be staged at Croke Park in Dublin, which is the longed-for venue for her swansong. Croke Park is an 80, 000-seat stadium and is set to host the All‑Ireland Hurling and Football Championships during July, with the latter stages of those competitions taking place throughout the month.

She said she wants to finish her career in Dublin and that, if Croke Park cannot be secured, "there are plenty of options" including the 3Arena, where she has fought before, or the Aviva Stadium, which seats 51, 000. "Fighting my last fight in our most iconic arena, how special would that be?" she added.

Where the last fights left her

katie taylor comes into a planned retirement with a 25-1 professional record and six knockouts, and as a two-weight undisputed champion. Her most recent win was the third fight with Amanda Serrano at Madison Square Garden in New York last July, a victory that retained her undisputed world super lightweight title.

Her professional setbacks include a single defeat to Britain's Chantelle Cameron in Dublin in May 2023; Taylor avenged that loss later in the same year. Her series with Serrano includes wins in April 2022, November 2024 and July 2025.

From Bray to Olympic gold and the pro ranks

Taylor, who hails from Bray in Ireland, won Olympic lightweight gold in 2012 and turned professional in 2016 after a decorated amateur career that included five world championships. She has described her career as "an amazing journey... over these last 20 years, " and said the final fight will be "kind of like my retirement fight. "

Sanctioning status and the vacant belt

In September Taylor informed the World Boxing Council of her plans to step away and was named 'Champion in Recess' by the WBC. Last week, Briton Sandy Ryan claimed the vacant belt with a victory over Mexico's Karla Ramos Zamora in Nottingham.

Final details still to be decided

Promoted by Eddie Hearn and Matchroom, Taylor has made clear that the opponent, date and exact venue for her final bout remain unconfirmed. "We are still trying to figure the details out, but I do have one more fight this year, " she said, adding that "all the other details will be laid out in the coming weeks and months. "

Taylor has taken time away from the sport before: she announced a break in September. With a final fight planned for the summer in Dublin and Croke Park at the top of her list, she said she is "very, very excited" about ending her career in Ireland; if Croke Park proves impossible, the 3Arena or the Aviva Stadium are among the options being considered.
