Bbc Casualty pulled from screens tonight as bbc casualty takes mid-series break
Fans expecting to watch casualty on 21 February will find the long-running medical drama off the schedule as the channel makes way for live sport. The programme is set to return the following Saturday, 28 February.
Casualty schedule change tonight
The scheduled absence on 21 February is to accommodate a Six Nations Rugby Union match between Wales and Scotland. Broadcast coverage begins at 4pm, with kick-off forty minutes later. Gabby Logan and John Inverdale are named as the match commentators for the third round fixture at Principality Stadium.
What follows the live match
After the rugby coverage, the schedule continues with Gladiators at 7: 15pm, followed by Michael McIntyre's Big Show an hour later and the new drama The Walsh Sisters, based on Marian Keyes's novels, at 9: 15pm ahead of the evening news.
Return date and episode details
The break is brief. Episode 7 of the current boxset, Learning Curve, will air on Saturday 28 February at 8. 30pm and will also be available to stream from 6am that morning. A short teaser for the episode reads: “The pressure is on for Flynn when the CQC make their return, but will a spiralling Matty and Kim get in the way?”
ED reinspection and internal tension
Holby ED remains under strain after a previous spot safety inspection failed while Ceri was observing the department. Clinical lead Flynn Byron (Olly Rix) is preparing for another visit from the CQC (Care Quality Commission) after Ceri previously gave Flynn 30 days to get things sorted before she would return for an important reinspection that could decide the future of the department and staff jobs.
Plot and character developments
Several storylines are set to collide during the reinspection. New resident Matty Linlaker (Aron Julius) previously reported the hospital to the CQC after his first shift on rotation; only fellow newcomer Kim Chang (Jasmine Bayes) knows it was Matty who made the complaint. Matty has also been rocked by the revelation that his mentor Dylan is his biological dad. After Dylan tells Matty, Dylan assumes Matty will want to change mentors, but Matty calls Dylan a 'perfectly adequate mentor' and pretends the bombshell never happened. Matty later tells Kim he hasn’t told his mum about Dylan.
Kim's secret eating disorder escalates: she jogs into work, makes herself sick, and is later pleased by a notification showing she has hit 500% of her daily movement goal. Her vision begins to blur while treating patients. During a shift when the CQC are watching, Kim and Matty team up to treat a patient with a head injury. Matty is keen to perform a lumbar puncture and, with Flynn occupied by Ceri, feels confident to proceed without direct supervision. Kim reads instructions to Matty from her phone, but as her vision worsens she gives Matty the wrong orders — a mistake that could affect both the patient and the inspection.
Tensions between colleagues run high elsewhere. Teddy Gowan (Milo Clarke) and Jacob Masters (Charles Venn) are at loggerheads after Jacob complained about PC Ashley Sullivan's (Hannah Traylen) arrest of Blake Gardner (David Ajayi). Teddy is angry that Jacob made the complaint but insists Ashley isn’t racist. The pair begin to reconcile after working well together on a callout. Teddy tells Ashley that Jacob will drop the complaint if she apologises to him, though it is unclear if that resolution will play out as suggested.
Siobhan McKenzie (Melanie Hill), following her sexual assault, suffers another setback. She is told the police have made an arrest after her rapist’s DNA was found on her uniform. DI Hughes later reports the suspect, Chris, was a patient, and Cam realises he asked Siobhan to treat Chris when he was in the ED — a detail that could undermine the evidence and complicate Siobhan’s prospects for justice. Content warning: this coverage contains discussion of rape.
