Pokémon Firered Leafgreen on Switch and Switch 2

The classic 2004 remakes are being released as download-only titles for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, with availability timed to coincide with the scheduled presentation that morning. Each game will be offered individually in English, French and Spanish on My Nintendo Store and Nintendo eShop, and will be playable on both Switch platforms after the presentation concludes. Physical editions are not being offered at this time.

What the Switch versions include

These releases preserve the core turn-based RPG experience and original soundtrack while bringing forward the updates introduced during the Game Boy Advance era. Players can encounter the franchise’s original 151 Pokémon and re-engage with familiar characters from Kanto, including Brock, Misty, Professor Oak and Giovanni.

  • GBA-era gameplay updates retained: abilities, natures, weather conditions and held items.
  • Player character gender selection included, matching the remakes’ options.
  • Local cooperative play is supported on Switch platforms without the need for a Game Link Cable.

Release timing, pricing and language notes

The titles will be available for download on Feb. 27, timed with a morning presentation that begins at 6 a. m. PT / 9 a. m. ET and after which the games can be played. Each title will carry a suggested retail price of $19. 99 (USD) at select retailers during launch week while the digital editions will be listed individually on the digital storefronts.

Language availability is handled per file: English, French and Spanish versions are each sold separately and there are no in-game options to switch languages after purchase. The French and Spanish editions use EU French and EU Spanish localizations.

This release offers both long-time fans and new players a chance to experience the Kanto storyline and its roster of original Pokémon on current hardware, with the nostalgic design preserved alongside systems that reflect the refinements introduced during the Game Boy Advance era.
