Pokémon Firered Leafgreen coming to Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 on Pokémon Day
Pokémon Firered Leafgreen will return to Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 on Feb. 27, landing in digital storefronts just in time for Pokémon Day and giving players a chance to revisit the Kanto region with the 2004 Game Boy Advance remakes.
Switch and Switch 2 versions available on My Nintendo Store and Nintendo eShop
Nintendo says Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version will be released as digital-only titles in English, French and Spanish on My Nintendo Store and Nintendo eShop on Feb. 27. The company also notes the games will be available at select retailers during launch week for a suggested retail price of $19. 99 (USD). The French and Spanish versions are presented in EU French and EU Spanish, and each language version is sold separately with no in‑game option to change language.
Release timing and the Pokémon Presents presentation
The Pokémon Company has scheduled a Pokémon Presents presentation for Friday, February 27, and the presentation will air at 9 a. m. ET. The new Switch and Switch 2 versions will be playable after the conclusion of that presentation, and the announcement confirms the titles can run on both Switch and Switch 2 systems.
What players will find in the Kanto re-releases
These Switch releases replicate the 2004 remakes of the original Game Boy titles and let players encounter the games’ original 151 Pokémon. Features introduced during the Game Boy Advance era carry over, including abilities, natures, weather conditions and held items, plus the ability to select the player character’s gender. Local co-op is supported on Switch systems, removing the need for the old Game Link Cable to link up with friends.
The versions bring back recognizable characters and locations from those remakes: Professor Oak, Brock, Misty and Giovanni are listed as part of the familiar cast players will meet while exploring Kanto. Nintendo highlights the classic soundtrack and turn-based gameplay that defined the Game Boy Advance releases.
A separate write-up described the releases as download-only, but Nintendo’s release specifies both digital availability on Feb. 27 and select retail availability during launch week at the $19. 99 suggested retail price.
Players who want to watch the reveal can tune in to the Pokémon Presents presentation on Friday, February 27, at 9 a. m. ET; the Nintendo eShop and My Nintendo Store listings will go live on Feb. 27 and the titles will be playable after the presentation concludes.
