Court records show Caleb Carl Flynn, 39, is charged with one count of murder and two counts each of felonious assault and tampering with evidence in the Feb. 16 death of 37-year-old Ashley Flynn at a house on the 900 block of Cunningham Court in Tipp City.
911 call, gun evidence and scene details
Police responded after a frantic 911 call placed at about 2: 30 a. m.; on the nearly eight-minute recording the caller said his wife was bleeding and unresponsive and that someone might still be in the house. Court filings say Ashley Flynn suffered two gunshot wounds to the head and that investigators found two shell casings in the bedroom where her body was discovered.
Staged burglary and items noted by investigators
Police and court documents state that investigators found signs that the scene had been manipulated to appear as a burglary, and that a side door to the garage was open with what appeared to be a large fridge blocking the doorway. Court records also say Flynn told officers he kept a 9mm handgun in the center console of a truck parked in the garage and that the console was open when officers arrived.
Caleb Flynn was booked into the Miami County Jail on Feb. 19 and entered a not guilty plea during a video arraignment the following day; court records list his bond at $2 million.
Neighbors have told investigators the family had two elementary-age daughters and two goldendoodles, and local school records show Ashley Flynn worked as a teacher and coached seventh-grade girls volleyball at a Tipp City school.
Flynn had appeared on a season of American Idol in 2013 and previously served as a music pastor and worship leader in Tipp City, remarks he made in earlier interviews showing he described his wife as a driving reason he auditioned; that footage is part of the official file referenced in court documents.
He remains held in Miami County Jail with bond set at $2 million; court records and police filings show prosecutors have charged him and the case will proceed through the Miami County court system.
