Former Footballer Among Four Accused of Attempted Murder in Shooting

Patrick Lacey, a former professional footballer, is one of four individuals charged with attempted murder in connection with a shooting incident. The event occurred on November 28 in Huyton, leaving a man in his 20s with severe leg injuries.

Details of the Shooting Incident

The victim was shot twice in the leg at approximately 10:20 PM on a driveway on Radway Road. Two assailants on a Sur-ron bike carried out the attack. The seriously injured man was urgently transported to a hospital, where he was reported to be in critical condition.

Arrests and Charges

Subsequent investigations led to coordinated police raids across Knowsley, Sefton, and Liverpool, resulting in the arrest of four suspects on February 19. Those arrested alongside Lacey include:

  • John Aaron Jones, 35, from Stamfordham Drive, Allerton
  • John George Patrick Hughes, 31, with no fixed address
  • Bernard Flynn, 61, from Knowsley Road, Bootle

All four individuals face multiple charges, which include:

  • Attempted murder
  • Conspiracy to murder
  • Possession of a shotgun and ammunition with intent to endanger life
  • Section 18 grievous bodily harm (GBH)
  • Conspiracy to cause GBH

The accused are set to appear in court at Liverpool, Knowsley, Sefton, and St Helens Adult Remand Court.
