City Centre Fight Leads to Man’s Arrest

Merseyside Police were called at about 4.45am after reports of an altercation near Clayton Square. Officers were told two men were involved and one threatened the other with what was described as a firearm.

There is no indication the weapon was fired. Police say no one was injured during the incident.

Incident and arrest

Following CCTV checks and witness statements, officers detained a 37-year-old man in the city centre. He was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm without a certificate. The suspect remains in custody as enquiries continue.

No firearm has been recovered so far. Investigators continue to examine CCTV and speak to witnesses to establish the full sequence of events. The city centre fight resulted in a man arrested early this morning.
