Suspected Avalanche Causes Train Derailment in Switzerland
A train derailment in Switzerland has raised concerns of safety following an avalanche. The incident occurred early Monday morning, involving a BLS AG train traveling from Goppenstein to Hohtenn.
Details of the Incident
The train derailed at approximately 7 AM, leading to multiple injuries. Authorities reported at least five individuals were hurt, with one requiring hospitalization in Sion.
Emergency Response
First responders quickly arrived at the scene. Emergency personnel included:
- Fire crews
- Two ambulances
- A helicopter
- Eight mountain rescuers
- Two fire and rescue trains
Four of the injured were treated on-site and did not need further medical assistance. All 29 passengers aboard the train were safely evacuated, and a replacement bus service was arranged to aid their transport.
