Islander Day, a provincial holiday in Prince Edward Island (P.E.I.), is set for Monday, February 16, 2026. On this day, all provincial government offices and most stores will be closed. This holiday impacts the operations of various services, so residents and visitors should plan ahead.

Operations on Islander Day 2026

Here’s what to expect concerning openings and closures on Islander Day:

Government Offices and Services

  • All provincial government offices, including Access P.E.I. and public libraries, will be closed.
  • City halls in Charlottetown and Summerside are also closed.
  • Canada Post is conducting regular mail collection services.
  • T3 Transit will not operate.
  • Island Waste Management Corporation will pause curbside garbage collection, rescheduled for Saturday, February 21.
  • Waste Watch drop-off centers will be non-operational.

Retail and Grocery Stores

  • P.E.I. liquor and cannabis stores will be closed for the holiday.
  • Sobeys supermarkets across the Island will not open.
  • Co-Op and Foodland stores are closed, except the Souris location, which is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Royalty Crossing Mall and Confederation Court Mall in Charlottetown will be closed.
  • County Fair Mall in Summerside is closed, but Lawtons Drugs inside will operate from noon to 5 p.m.
  • Walmart locations in Charlottetown and Summerside will not open.
  • Atlantic Superstores will remain closed.
  • Kensington Food Basket will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Panda Mart in Charlottetown is open from 9:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Pharmacy Hours

  • Murphy’s Pharmacy will have varied hours; please check local listings for specifics.
  • Lawtons Drugs in Sherwood will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Friendly’s in the Charlottetown Polyclinic from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Lawtons at the County Fair Mall in Summerside will cater from noon to 5 p.m.
  • Shoppers Drug Mart locations will operate during regular hours.

Residents are advised to confirm the hours of operation for local businesses prior to venturing out on Islander Day. Although many facilities will be closed, a few remain open to serve the community.
