Mickel Fails to Medal in Men’s Mogul Super Final
Charlie Mickel from Durango competed in the men’s mogul skiing event at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Livigno, Italy. Despite a strong qualifying round, Mickel finished 12th in the men’s moguls final, falling short of a spot in the super final.
Mickel’s Journey to the Olympics
The competition took place on a challenging 804-foot course with a steep gradient of 28 degrees. Mickel improved his performance over his two qualifying runs, scoring 75.31 in his first run and 77.82 in the second. In the final, he achieved a score of 78.03, which, unfortunately, was not enough to qualify for the super final.
Reflections on Performance
After the final, Mickel expressed optimism about his performance. “I thought it was a great run,” he stated. “I was happy to see that. I had a smooth run from top to bottom.” However, he acknowledged the difficulty of reaching the super final, indicating he felt he had maximized his potential.
Aiming for Future Success in Dual Moguls
Despite the disappointment, Mickel remains hopeful. He is set to participate in his second Olympic event, the dual moguls, on Sunday. This new discipline features a tournament-style elimination format that includes 32 skiers.
Inspiration for Future Generations
Recognized as potentially the first winter Olympian in a downhill sport from Durango, Mickel aims to inspire young athletes in his hometown. “I hope that young athletes from the Durango area can see that it is possible to achieve their dreams,” he noted, encouraging them to pursue skiing and other winter sports.
