AMA Returns Repaired Bus to Greater Accra Market Association

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has successfully refurbished and returned a bus to the Greater Accra Market Association, enhancing the organization’s operational efficacy. This vehicle had remained inactive for over five years, which hampered the association’s activities.

Bus Handover Ceremony Highlights

The bus handover occurred during the Greater Accra Market Association’s 65th End-of-Year Gathering and General Meeting. This significant event took place in Accra on a Thursday and featured key dignitaries, including:

  • Mayor of Accra, Michael Kpakpo Allotey
  • Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Obenewaa Ocloo
  • Vice President, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang

Support from the Accra Metropolitan Assembly

During the ceremony, Mayor Allotey announced that the AMA would not only provide a driver for the newly repaired bus but also cover its monthly operational costs. The bus is now equipped with a fully functioning air-conditioning system, making it fit for its official duties.

Background of the Initiative

The decision to reactivate the bus stemmed from a discussion in December with First Lady Lordina Mahama, who highlighted the vehicle’s prolonged inactivity. Mayor Allotey responded promptly, emphasizing the importance of fulfilling commitments, influenced by guidance from President John Mahama.

Officials’ Remarks

Linda Obenewaa Ocloo, representing the President and the First Lady, acknowledged the importance of this initiative. She encouraged the Greater Accra Market Association to maintain communication with the AMA to secure ongoing support and assistance.

Reactions from the Greater Accra Market Association

Madam Mercy Naa Afrowa Needjan, the association’s President, expressed her deep appreciation. She emphasized that the return of the bus would significantly improve operational efficiency for the association across the Greater Accra region.
