Repaired Bus Handed Over to Greater Accra Market Association by AMA
The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) recently presented a repaired bus to the Greater Accra Market Association. This event marks a significant improvement in the association’s operational capabilities after more than five years of inactivity for the vehicle.
Bus Handing Over Ceremony
The official handover took place during the Greater Accra Market Association’s 65th End-of-Year Gathering and General Meeting. The event was held in Accra on Thursday and was attended by notable figures, including:
- Mayor of Accra, Michael Kpakpo Allotey
- Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Obenewaa Ocloo
- Vice President, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang
Support from AMA
During the ceremony, Mayor Allotey announced that the AMA would provide a driver for the bus. Additionally, the assembly will cover the vehicle’s monthly running costs. The air-conditioning system has also been fully repaired, ensuring that the bus is ready for official duties.
Background of the Initiative
This initiative to reactivate the bus originated from a discussion with First Lady Lordina Mahama last December. She emphasized the long period of inactivity of the vehicle, prompting Mayor Allotey to take immediate action. The Mayor stressed the significance of keeping commitments, guided by insights from President John Mahama.
Remarks from Officials
Linda Obenewaa Ocloo, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, noted that the bus presentation was made on behalf of the President and the First Lady. She urged the Greater Accra Market Association to maintain an open line of communication with the AMA for ongoing support.
Reactions from the Market Association
Madam Mercy Naa Afrowa Needjan, President of the Greater Accra Market Association, expressed her heartfelt gratitude. She acknowledged the bus’s long period of inactivity and highlighted how its return will enhance operational efficiency for the association across the metropolis.
