“Metal Gear Solid 4 Launches on Modern Consoles in MGS Master Collection 2”
Konami has announced the upcoming release of Metal Gear Solid 4 as part of the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Volume 2. This marks a significant milestone, as it will be the first time the game becomes available on platforms other than the PlayStation 3.
Release Information
The Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Volume 2 is set to launch on August 27. This collection will be playable on multiple platforms, including:
- PlayStation 5
- Xbox
- Nintendo Switch
- Nintendo Switch 2
- PC
In addition to Metal Gear Solid 4, the collection will feature other titles such as Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker and Metal Gear Solid: Ghost Babel.
Bonus Features and Updates
Each game in the collection will come with a scenario book that details the story and characters. Players who possess save data from the previous Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Volume 1 will receive in-game items that can be used in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. Konami has also revealed that a final update for the first Master Collection will be released alongside the second volume, featuring enhanced HD visuals for titles MGS 1 and MGS 3.
Challenges in Porting
Producer Noriaki Okamura acknowledged the long-standing exclusivity of Metal Gear Solid 4 to the PlayStation 3. He mentioned that porting the game was challenging due to the PS3’s complex architecture. Originally, the game was distributed on large Blu-ray discs, which could hold up to 54GB.
