Chrome Unveils Pinned Tabs Feature for Android Users
Google has officially begun to roll out its Pinned Tabs feature for Chrome users on Android devices. This update follows an initial announcement made in December and aims to enhance browsing efficiency.
Introduction of Pinned Tabs in Chrome for Android
With this new feature, Android users can now enjoy better organization and accessibility of their favorite tabs. The Pinned Tabs functionality is available in the tab grid interface, allowing users to prioritize certain web pages easily.
How to Use the Pinned Tabs Feature
- To pin a tab, simply long-press on a card in the tab grid.
- Select the “Pin tab” option that appears above “Close tab.”
- The pinned tab will shift to the top of the grid, making it readily accessible.
Once pinned, the ‘x’ icon that typically indicates closing a tab is replaced with a pin icon. This change aims to reduce accidental closures of important tabs. Moreover, users cannot swipe to close pinned tabs from the grid view.
New Features for Enhanced Navigation
If you have multiple tabs open and are not viewing the top of the grid, a new docked carousel is available. This carousel displays all pinned tabs along with their favicons and page names, allowing users to scroll through and tap to open their desired tabs quickly. The animation for this carousel is designed to be smooth and responsive.
Latest Chrome Version Rollout
The Pinned Tabs feature is being rolled out with Chrome version 144. This update aligns the mobile experience more closely with that of the desktop browser, providing users with a consistent browsing experience across platforms.
For Chrome users seeking enhanced tab management, the new Pinned Tabs feature on Android is set to improve productivity and streamline browsing habits.
