GO Transit Overcharges Riders: Discover Your Refund Amount After System Glitch
GO Transit riders experienced a fare overcharge due to a recent system update, resulting in incorrect billing at the start of the monthly loyalty cycle. Metrolinx disclosed this issue in a communication with CP24.
Details of the Fare Overcharge
On February 1, a select group of customers were charged $4.40 instead of the standard fare of $3.70. This situation arose when the system improperly calculated the tap-on fares for some GO Transit users.
Impact and Resolution
Fortunately, the overcharge impacted less than one percent of GO riders. Metrolinx quickly recognized the problem and implemented a fix by February 2, ensuring that proper fares have been charged since then.
Refund Process for Affected Riders
Metrolinx has taken steps to identify all affected customers, and a refund process is currently underway. Riders can expect to receive their refunds within ten business days.
Apology and Customer Support
The transit agency has expressed its apologies for the inconvenience caused by this glitch. Metrolinx is grateful to its customers for their understanding and patience during this incident.
