Samsung Display Unveils “QD-OLED Penta-Tandem” Premium Technology Brand

Samsung Display has introduced the “QD-OLED Penta-Tandem,” a new premium technology brand that enhances its QD-OLED panels with a unique five-layer organic light-emitting structure.

Key Features of QD-OLED Penta-Tandem Technology

This innovative technology highlights significant advancements in display quality and efficiency. The name “Penta” signifies the incorporation of five organic layers, differing from the previous four-layer structure.

Enhanced Luminance: Penta-Tandem improves luminous efficiency by 1.3 times compared to its predecessor.
Extended Lifespan: The new structure doubles the lifespan of the panel’s capability.
Peak Brightness: Achieves industry-leading brightness levels of 4,500 nits for TVs and 1,300 nits for monitors.
DisplayHDR True Black 500 Certification: Displays meet stringent criteria, maintaining black levels of 0.0005 nits or lower.

Technological Advantages

The five-layer organic light-emitting architecture allows for superior energy distribution. This innovation enhances both brightness and energy efficiency. The design is likened to five individuals sharing a workload previously managed by four, allowing for either greater power or extended performance.

The company’s 27-inch UHD (3840×2160) QD-OLED monitor, launched last year, boasts a pixel density of 160 pixels per inch (PPI), the highest among self-emissive gaming monitors available today.

Market Position and Future Plans

Samsung Display is currently the only manufacturer producing 27-inch UHD self-emissive displays with these specifications. The technology will expand across a range of panel sizes in 2023, including:

31.5-inch UHD monitors
34-inch WQHD displays
49-inch Dual QHD (5120×1440) models

In addition to monitors, the Penta-Tandem technology will feature in self-emissive TV displays, aiming to meet the demands of top-tier market players.
