Chichester Festival Theatre Reveals 2026 Lineup: Atonement, Munya Chawawa, My Fair Lady

Chichester Festival Theatre has unveiled its exciting lineup for the 2026 season, which will run from March to December. The season kicks off with the much-anticipated adaptation of Roald Dahl’s classic, The BFG, reimagined by Tom Wells. Helmed by Daniel Evans, this production will take center stage from 9 March to 11 April before heading to Singapore.

2026 Season Highlights

Among the standout offerings are several premieres and adaptations featuring notable works and talent.

  • Magic: This world premiere by David Haig will deepen the season, with additional casting details forthcoming.
  • Eclipse: A debut play by John Morton, showcasing Sarah Parish and Rupert Penry-Jones, runs from 8 May to 6 June at the Minerva Theatre.
  • Atonement: Adapted from Ian McEwan’s acclaimed novel by Christopher Hampton, this will also feature prominently in the season.
  • My Fair Lady: A first for Chichester, Lerner and Loewe’s classic musical will be staged, adding a beloved favorite to the lineup.

Additional Productions

The season will also include:

  • 45 Years: Featuring Geraldine James, this adaptation of Andrew Haigh’s film opens from 12 June to 11 July.
  • Atlantis: Emily White’s new play is scheduled from 18 July to 15 August, following an earlier run at Theatr Clwyd.
  • a small and quiet light: This play, based on Noor-un-Nisa Inayat Khan’s life, runs from 21 August to 12 September before transferring to the Orange Tree Theatre.
  • A Midsummer Night’s Dream: Co-directed by Justin Audibert and Hannah Joss, it features Munya Chawawa in his theatrical debut.
  • Antigone Exits: Directed by Jeff James, this production will be available from 26 September to 17 October.

Festive Programming and Accessibility

The festive season will see the return of Hey! Christmas Tree from 5 to 27 December, while Chichester Festival Youth Theatre plans to present Peter Pan from 14 to 30 December.

Accessibility is a priority, with 21,000 tickets priced at £10 and £15. Moreover, 10,000 £5 Prologue tickets will be designated for audiences aged 16 to 30, ensuring that the theater remains inclusive.

The Nest, the theatre’s studio venue, will continue to support emerging artists through various performances, comedy, and music. Additionally, a diverse array of events, including talks and backstage tours, will enrich the audience experience throughout the season.
