Cooper Flagg’s Foot Injury: Latest Updates on Mavs Star Before All-Star Weekend

Dallas Mavericks rookie Cooper Flagg is facing a challenging moment as he deals with a foot injury. On Wednesday, the team announced the results of an MRI which confirmed Flagg has a left midfoot sprain. This injury was sustained during a game against the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday.

Injury Details and Impact

Due to this setback, Flagg will not participate in Thursday’s match against the Los Angeles Lakers. Furthermore, he will miss the Rising Stars Game scheduled for Friday. This injury is particularly notable as it marks Flagg’s second injury in a month.

Previous Injuries

Earlier this month, on January 14, Flagg exited the Mavericks’ game against the Denver Nuggets after suffering a sprained right ankle. He had also previously injured the same ankle in a game versus the Brooklyn Nets. Mavs head coach Jason Kidd explained, “He stepped on someone’s foot. Last game, he twisted his ankle, too.” Kidd expressed uncertainty regarding Flagg’s status for the upcoming game against the Utah Jazz.

Flagg’s Rising Stardom

Despite these injuries, Cooper Flagg has shown significant talent and potential. After a difficult start to the season, he has made a remarkable turnaround, recently displaying flashes of superstardom. Currently, he is averaging impressive statistics with:

  • 20.4 points per game
  • 6.6 rebounds per game
  • 4.1 assists per game

His performance earned him the title of Western Conference Rookie of the Month for both November and December, highlighting his contributions to the team.

Mavs’ Current Standing

Despite Flagg’s growing prowess, the Mavericks are struggling for consistency this season. With a record of 19-34, they currently hold the 12th position in the Western Conference. Additionally, star point guard Kyrie Irving is still recovering from a torn ACL injury suffered last March. The loss of Flagg could further hinder the Mavericks’ chances, placing more responsibility on the remaining players to maintain competitiveness.
