Duo Arrested for Using Stolen Credit Card
Two individuals are facing legal repercussions following the fraudulent use of a stolen credit card in Sault Ste. Marie.
Duo Arrested for Using Stolen Credit Card
On January 14, Sault Ste. Marie Police received reports of a theft that occurred in the 500 block of John Street. A wallet and other belongings were taken from a vehicle. Authorities believe a single individual was responsible for the initial theft.
This perpetrator allegedly used the stolen credit card to make several unauthorized purchases. Subsequently, a second individual obtained the card and committed further fraud by using it for more transactions.
Arrests and Charges
Last Wednesday, police apprehended the individual believed to have used the credit card after the initial theft. John Boyko, 34, now faces multiple charges, including:
- Possession of Credit Card (two counts)
Boyko has been released under certain conditions and is scheduled to appear in court on April 27.
Following this, on the following Friday, authorities arrested the person they suspect was responsible for the initial theft. Starla Hess, 30, has been charged with:
- Possession of Credit Card
- Theft of Credit Card
- Theft – Under $5,000
- Use of Credit Card
- Failure to Comply with Release Order – Other Than to Attend Court (three counts)
Hess is currently held in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
It is important to note that all allegations have yet to be evaluated in court. Both accused individuals are considered innocent until proven guilty.
