Olympic Skating Star Seeks Assignment Extension During Winter Games Competition
Canadian figure skater Maddie Schizas is navigating the challenges of academic deadlines while competing at the Winter Olympics. As a four-time national champion, her recent social media post revealed a request for an extension on her assignment due to her Olympic commitments.
Assignment Extension Request During Winter Games Competition
Schizas is currently pursuing a degree in sociology at McMaster University in Ontario, Canada. She mistakenly believed her assignment was due on Sunday, only to discover it was due a day earlier. If granted an extension, she will balance her academic responsibilities with competing in Milan Cortina this weekend.
Olympic Competitor
- Age: 22 years old
- Height: 4 feet 11 inches
- Olympic Debut: Beijing 2022
- Previous Olympic Performance: Second place in both the women’s short program and the free skate
This marks Schizas’s second Olympic appearance. Her experiences at the Beijing Games were marred by COVID-19 restrictions, limiting her Olympic experience by keeping friends and family away from the event.
Competing and Studying Simultaneously
Despite the demanding schedule, Schizas finds strength and balance through her academic pursuits. She stated, “If I was only skating, that’s all I’d think about 24 hours a day. I knew I needed another outlet.”
Both her skating and studies contribute to a grounded life, as she utilizes her time in class and completing assignments to manage the pressures of elite competition.
Future Prospects
Although Schizas has yet to secure a medal at the Olympics or World Championships, she remains optimistic about her chances in Milan Cortina. Competing at this level while continuing her education reflects her commitment to both sports and academic excellence.
