Belshaw Launches Steamboat Athletes’ Olympics in Women’s Normal Hill Ski Jumping

At the recent Olympic Games, Annika Belshaw made her debut in the Women’s Normal Hill Ski Jumping event, finishing in 21st place. The 23-year-old athlete hails from Steamboat Springs and is an alum of the Winter Sports Club. In her two jumps, Belshaw scored 118.5 in her first attempt and 106.9 in her second, totaling 225.4 points.

Results and Standings in Women’s Normal Hill Ski Jumping

Belshaw was not alone in the competition. Other American athletes also participated, with Paige Jones and Josie Johnson finishing 23rd and 27th, respectively. The final standings for the top three competitors were as follows:

  • Gold: Anna Odine Strom (Norway) – 267.3 points
  • Silver: Nika Prevc (Slovenia) – 266.2 points
  • Bronze: Nozomi Maruyama (Japan) – 261.8 points

Strom showcased remarkable skill, with both of her jumps exceeding 100 meters. The competition was intense, especially with the top three athletes competing down to the last jump.

Future Competitions for Steamboat Athletes

Belshaw looks forward to her next events, which include the mixed team jumping scheduled for February 10 and the Women’s Large Hill on February 12. Along with Jones, she represents the University of Utah in ski jumping.

Current Rankings and Leaders

In terms of overall standings, Nika Prevc currently leads the FIS Women’s ski jumping points chart, followed by Nozomi Maruyama in second place and Anna Odine Strom in fourth. Belshaw currently sits at 26th in the World Cup standings.

Looking ahead, fellow Steamboat athletes Cody Winters and Ester Ledecka are set to compete in the Men’s and Women’s Parallel Giant Slalom events. These will take place on Sunday, starting at 1 a.m.
