Anthony Rizzo, David Ross Launch Cubs Podcast Celebrating 2016 World Series Victory
Anthony Rizzo and David Ross are teaming up to launch a new Cubs podcast timed for the 10th anniversary of the 2016 championship. The show premieres March 31 on The Volume and will revisit the club’s historic run.
Show concept and format
The podcast, called The Lovable Reunion, will feature long-form conversations. Hosts will sit down with members of the 2016 roster to share behind-the-scenes stories and memories.
Episodes will focus on roles, decisions, and pivotal moments from that season. The series aims to bring listeners back into the clubhouse atmosphere.
Planned guests and highlights
Former manager Joe Maddon is expected to appear. So are 2016 NL MVP Kris Bryant and pitchers Jon Lester and Jake Arrieta.
Slugger Kyle Schwarber, who returned from a torn ACL to contribute in the Fall Classic, will also be featured. The lineup promises many familiar voices from that team.
Why the 2016 season matters
The Cubs won an MLB-best 103 regular-season games in 2016. They then capped the year by ending a 108-year championship drought.
Game 7 of the World Series became an instant classic and drew massive television audiences. The victory remains a defining moment for Chicago baseball.
Hosts’ recent careers
Rizzo spent 10 seasons with the Cubs and was a three-time All-Star. He retired after 14 Major League seasons and now works as an MLB studio analyst for NBC.
Ross ended a 15-year playing career with the World Series title in 2016. He joined ESPN as an analyst in 2017 and later became the Cubs’ manager in October 2019.
Ross led the team through the 2023 season before being replaced by Craig Counsell in November 2023. He served as Team USA bullpen coach at the 2026 World Baseball Classic. Ross has recently been announced as returning to ESPN as an MLB analyst.
Production and distribution
The Volume, founded by Colin Cowherd, will host the podcast. The company produces sports podcasts and video content across platforms.
Matthew Kline, The Volume’s Head of Digital, described the series as an opportunity to revisit untold stories from that championship run.
