Meals on Wheels Chicago Launches ‘Snap Together Volunteers’ for Illinois SNAP Recipients
Meals on Wheels Chicago has introduced a new initiative aimed at helping adults meet the requirements for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. The program, called “Snap Together Volunteers,” is designed to facilitate accessible volunteer opportunities for older adults in Illinois.
Important Changes to SNAP Requirements
As of February 1, a significant rule change has been implemented regarding SNAP eligibility in Illinois. Adults up to age 64 are now required to complete 80 hours of volunteer work or community service each month to qualify for benefits. Previously, this requirement applied only to individuals up to age 54.

This initiative not only helps older adults gain the necessary volunteer hours to maintain their SNAP benefits but also fosters community engagement.
