Raiders Target Seahawks’ Klint Kubiak for Head Coach Role: Sources
According to sources, the Las Vegas Raiders are poised to hire Klint Kubiak, current offensive coordinator of the Seattle Seahawks, as their next head coach. The official announcement is expected to come after Super Bowl LX, as Kubiak prepares to coach Seattle in the championship game. He recently held meetings with both the Raiders and the Arizona Cardinals.
Klint Kubiak’s Coaching Journey
Kubiak, 38, is on track to become the Raiders’ fifth head coach since 2021. This move would mark his sixth different franchise within as many seasons. His coaching career includes significant roles across the NFL:
- Promoted to offensive coordinator with the Minnesota Vikings in 2021 during Mike Zimmer’s final year.
- Served with the Denver Broncos and the San Francisco 49ers.
- Became offensive coordinator for the New Orleans Saints in 2024.
- Joined the Seahawks as offensive coordinator last offseason.
Impact on Seattle Seahawks
Under Kubiak’s leadership, the Seattle offense showed considerable improvement. Notably, wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba had a standout year, accumulating 1,793 receiving yards, which led the league. His performance earned him a spot as a unanimous first-team All-Pro and a nomination for the Offensive Player of the Year award. Quarterback Sam Darnold also thrived, throwing for a season-high 346 yards in a key NFC-winning game against the Los Angeles Rams.
Raiders’ Recent Coaching Changes
The Raiders aim for stability as they prepare to make this significant coaching change. Following a disappointing season under Pete Carroll, who lasted just one year with a 3-14 record, the franchise has prioritized finding a new leader. Las Vegas has previously interviewed several candidates, including:
- Mike McDaniel, former head coach of the Miami Dolphins
- Ejiro Evero, defensive coordinator of the Carolina Panthers
- Brian Daboll, former head coach of the New York Giants
- Davis Webb, Broncos passing game coordinator
Key figures in this hiring process include GM John Spytek and minority owner Tom Brady. The Raiders have not won a playoff game since the 2002 season and have only made two playoff appearances during that time.
