Super Cup Venue Hosts Football Again After Six-Month Concert Hiatus

The Mané Garrincha Stadium is once again the venue for football events after a six-month hiatus due to concerts. The venue recently resumed hosting matches, having experienced a significant reduction in football activities since its reinauguration in 2013.

Super Cup Venue and Football Statistics

Since being renovated for the 2014 World Cup, the stadium has hosted over 200 professional matches. However, 2025 recorded the lowest number of games in its history, with only nine football games taking place. This included matches from various competitions.

Competitions Held at Mané Garrincha

  • Campeonato Carioca
  • Campeonato Mineiro
  • Campeonato Paulista
  • Copa do Brasil
  • Brasileirão
  • Brazilian National Team match (World Cup Qualifiers)

The majority of these matches were played in the first half of the year. Notably, March saw the stadium hosting four professional games. Key matchups included:

  • Vasco vs. Fluminense in the Campeonato Carioca
  • São Paulo playing against XV de Piracicaba and Velo Clube in the Campeonato Paulista
  • Palmeiras taking on Água Santa

Venue Adjustments

Several teams, such as Vasco and Água Santa, requested changes to their home games due to commercial commitments. São Paulo opted to move two of its games to Mané Garrincha while Morumbi was reserved for shows.

The resumption of football at the Mané Garrincha Stadium marks a significant development for local sports culture as it transitions back from its concert-focused schedule. Fans eagerly anticipate more football events in the near future.
