Fender Crafts Guitars from Burned Altadena Wood to Aid Home Rebuilding
Fender, the renowned guitar maker, is creating a unique series of electric guitars from fire-damaged trees in Altadena, California. This initiative stems from the aftermath of the Eaton Fire, which caused significant destruction in the region.
Reviving Burned Altadena Wood for Guitar Crafting
In collaboration with Angel City Lumber, Fender is repurposing these compromised trees to produce a limited collection of custom instruments. This project not only transforms otherwise discarded wood but also aims to support the local community in its recovery efforts.
Custom Instruments for a Cause
Four one-of-a-kind guitars will be produced and auctioned to raise funds for rebuilding homes in Altadena. The first guitar, named the Altadena Telecaster, showcases a body crafted from Deodar cedar salvaged from fire-damaged trees. The instrument features a stunning AAA figured maple neck, inspired by classic 1950s Telecasters, and is complemented by a single-ply black pickguard.

Justin Norvell, Fender’s President of Americas, emphasized the project’s significance: “Music has always been about connection, and this project brings that spirit to life through an instrument built to give back.”
A Live Performance and an Ongoing Auction
The Altadena Telecaster has already made its mark. Dawes frontman Taylor Goldsmith played it during A Concert for Altadena, a benefit event aimed at supporting recovery efforts for families and first responders affected by the fire.
The acoustic auction is facilitated through PLUS1, as part of the LA Fires Fund. Proceeds will benefit the San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity, focusing on home reconstruction and community programs. The guitar, valued at over $5,000, is currently attracting bids above estimates, reaching $7,500 as the auction continues through February 4 at 5:59 PM PST.
Future Guitars and Continued Support
Three additional custom guitars made from the reclaimed wood will be auctioned as they are completed. This partnership not only honors the memory of the lost trees but also plays a crucial role in supporting the recovery of the Altadena community.
