Safety Measures for Students

Most primary schools will suspend classes, while kindergartens remain open to provide care for children in need. Local governments issued announcements over the weekend to inform parents about the closures. For example, Korsze’s mayor, Jan Adamowicz, stated that the decision was made to protect children unfamiliar with such low temperatures.

In Lidzbark Warmiński, the mayor, Fabian Andrukajtis, also supported the suspension of classes. Meanwhile, in Orneta, officials announced that schools would offer childcare services while maintaining their preschool operations.

Similar measures were taken by Bartoszyce’s local authorities, impacting schools in Galiny, Bezledy, and surrounding areas. In Podlaskie, the municipality of Nurzec-Stacja confirmed that schools would remain open for students needing supervision during this period.

Weather Conditions

The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management has issued a second-level frost warning. Forecasts predict nighttime temperatures dropping to between minus 29 and minus 24 degrees Celsius. Daytime highs will range from minus 15 to minus 11 degrees. Winds are expected to blow at speeds between 5 and 20 km/h.

Educational regulations permit school directors to suspend classes if indoor temperatures drop below 18 degrees Celsius, or if outside conditions meet specific cold-weather criteria. This is in line with the ministerial regulations concerning safety and hygiene in schools.

These actions aim to ensure the safety and well-being of students during extreme weather conditions. Local authorities remain committed to communicating updates as the situation evolves.
