Pupils at Belmont Community Primary School in Grantham recently celebrated the school’s golden anniversary with a vibrant 1970s-themed day. This event occurred on January 15, marking 50 years since the school opened its doors in September 1975.

Students and staff embraced the 1970s spirit by donning flared trousers, flower headbands, and even curly wigs. The atmosphere buzzed with excitement, bringing the decade’s fashion and culture to life within the school.
A Day of Themed Activities
The day kicked off with a whole-school assembly where students compared their childhood experiences to those of the 1970s. Following the assembly, activities included:
- A lively 1970s disco
- Classic video games
- Learning the lyrics and dance moves to “YMCA” and “Dancing Queen”
- Creating tie-dye art
- Participating in traditional party games
These activities were designed not only to entertain but also to educate students about the past, celebrating the rich history of Belmont Community Primary School.
Creating Memories
Jamie Allsopp, the headteacher, expressed her enthusiasm for the event. “The day was filled with laughter, music, and creativity, enjoyed by children and staff alike,” she said. The aim was to make learning about the past a joyful experience.
