Rider Cuts and New Invites
The competition is heating up as the second rider cut occurred after the recent Tampa event. Top competitors from the Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour are replacing the lowest-ranked Unleash The Beast riders. Notably, three-time World Champion Jose Vitor Leme has dropped to rank No. 37 but is competing under exemption status.
New riders set to debut in Sacramento include Elijah Jennings and Wyatt Vineyard, as well as Velocity Tour stars Andy Guzman, Wyatt Rogers, Kase Hitt, Grayson Cole, and Manoelito de Souza Junior. The next cut will follow the Salt Lake City event scheduled for February 6-7, increasing pressure for those at the bottom of the standings.
Monster Energy Team Challenge
The Monster Energy Team Challenge will launch Friday night in Sacramento. It features two exciting 4-on-4 matchups:
- New York Mavericks vs. Nashville Stampede
- Carolina Cowboys vs. Austin Gamblers
This event is crucial as only ten Unleash The Beast events count toward METC qualifications. Every win is vital for teams aiming to qualify for the championship tournament later in the season.
Highlighting Familiar Showdowns
Round 1 will feature several anticipated rematches. A key showdown will involve Alex Cerqueira and Tecovas Triple Aught, tied at 1-1 after their meet in Palm Springs last March. Clay Guiton will also face Black Tie again after a 2.99-second buckoff in Tyler, Texas, last year.
Cort McFadden aims to maintain his unbeaten record against Noslaw Extrasauce. Meanwhile, Eduardo Aparecido seeks a breakthrough ride against Blown Away after previous buckoffs in the 2023 and 2024 World Finals.
Riders on the Comeback Trail
Several riders are making their return to competition. Felipe Furlan is attempting his first qualified ride after recovering from elbow surgery that sidelined him for 167 days. This weekend is a critical step in his recovery.
Additionally, Alison dos Santos is battling a shoulder injury but continues to ride. He hopes to regain his strong performance and impress fans as he competes among the elite.
