Surbiton High School’s girls’ football team is on the verge of achieving a remarkable milestone. They are just one match away from a return to Wembley Stadium. The team aims for their fourth title in the Utilita Girls Cup, having previously won in 2017, 2023, and 2025.

Path to Wembley

The next challenge for Surbiton High is the Southern regional final, scheduled for March. A victory there will secure a spot in the National Cup final at Wembley in April. This competition is organized by the English Football League (EFL) to connect grassroots players with professional football.

Local Support

Surbiton High represents AFC Wimbledon in this prestigious competition. Orla McComb, the AFC Wimbledon Project Officer for Women and Girls, praised the team’s performance. “Their teamwork, commitment, and attitude have really stood out,” she stated. McComb expressed excitement for the upcoming stage of the Utilita Cup.

Training and Preparation

In preparation for the regional finals, the team participated in an elite training session with Charlton Athletic, a WSL 2 team. This masterclass was led by Katie Bradley, a Charlton player and former Youth Lioness. The session focused on meeting the high standards required for success at this level.

Bradley Marshall, Charlton Athletic’s sports development manager, shared his appreciation for Bradley’s involvement. “It was brilliant to have Katie attend the event. She engaged with the players, answering their questions and sharing insights from her experiences,” he noted.
