CBC, Bell, and Corus Unite to Broadcast Canadian Screen Awards

In a groundbreaking collaboration, major Canadian broadcasters CBC, Bell, and Corus are joining forces to present the 2026 Canadian Screen Awards. This unprecedented simulcast aims to expand the reach of the awards nationally, showcasing homegrown talent and stories.

Details of the Broadcast

The ceremony is set to air on May 31 at 8 p.m. ET across multiple platforms, including:

  • CBC
  • CBC Gem
  • Crave
  • CTV
  • Global
  • STACKTV

The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television announced this initiative, excited about the growing support for Canadian culture. Academy CEO Tammy Frick stated, “The timing is just right. Everyone’s really supporting Canadian sovereignty and collaboration.”

Host and Participation

Calgary-born actor and comedian Andrew Phung will host the ceremony. He is an eight-time Screen Award winner, recognized for his roles in “Kim’s Convenience” and “Run the Burbs.” Frick noted that in previous years, the Screen Awards were broadcast only on CBC and CBC Gem.

While Rogers Broadcasting did not participate in this year’s simulcast, Bell and Corus quickly supported the idea when approached. Frick emphasized the importance of collaboration, stating, “High tides lift all boats. This opportunity allows broadcasters to acknowledge and highlight content available across their platforms.”

Impact of “Heated Rivalry”

The ongoing success of Crave’s popular series “Heated Rivalry” is expected to draw additional attention to the awards. Frick remarked, “The buzz around this show has just been so amazing. That helps uplift everybody.” However, details about potential cast attendance at the ceremony remain uncertain.

Future of Collaboration

This unique partnership highlights a shift in the Canadian broadcasting landscape. Frick mentioned ongoing discussions with all Canadian broadcasters about future collaborations. “As the industry evolves, new ways of working together emerge,” she explained. “It’s crucial to uplift Canadian stories and support talent.”

The 2026 Canadian Screen Awards will coincide with Canadian Screen Week, taking place from May 27 to May 31 in Toronto. The nominees will be announced on March 25, creating anticipation for the upcoming ceremony.
