Over the years, Banel progressed through Ajax’s youth system and became a key player for the youth team in the 2021/22 season. He made his mark in January 2022 when he assisted the winning goal on his Keuken Kampioen Divisie debut.
His consistent performance in the reserves earned him a promotion to the first team. Banel played in a Europa League match against Marseille in November 2023, accumulating nine senior appearances for Ajax. Despite his potential and a long-term contract at Ajax, he sought more playing time, leading to his transfer to Burnley.
