Melbourne’s ‘Maxi Lune’ Bakes Over 6000 Pastries Daily
Melbourne’s pastry enthusiasts have exciting news with the opening of ‘Maxi Lune,’ a new location for Lune Croissanterie. This facility is set to significantly elevate pastry production, reaching over 6,000 baked goods daily.
Maxi Lune: A New Pastry Powerhouse
Located at the corner of Lonsdale and Spencer streets, beneath the Ritz-Carlton hotel, Maxi Lune is scheduled to open on Saturday, January 31. The new store mirrors the original Fitzroy location in size but offers double the pastry-making capacity.
Innovative Design and Functionality
The 418-square-metre shop features high ceilings and a stylish concrete bench displaying various pastries. A distinct glass-walled “cube” allows customers to observe the intricate pastry lamination process.
- Capacity: Over 6,000 pastries produced daily
- Seating: Accommodates up to 50 guests
- Cold storage: Double the space compared to Fitzroy
Kate Reid, the founder of Lune Croissanterie, highlights that the additional cold storage is crucial for increasing output. The store also boasts 50% more kitchen space than its flagship counterpart in Fitzroy.
Exclusive Offerings and Innovations
On launch day, visitors can expect fresh pastries baked throughout the day, including the popular almond croissant and the traditional croissant. Monthly specials will also debut, starting with a unique collaboration with Melbourne’s Chappy’s chip brand.
- Exclusive product: A salty-sweet twice-baked croissant with choc chip frangipane, priced at $15.50
- Collaborative twist: Encourages diners to enjoy chips within the pastry
Reid remains committed to honing the quality of Lune’s classic offerings while exploring innovative flavors through her new head of development role.
Future Plans for Maxi Lune
Once the daytime operations are fully established, Reid plans to keep Maxi Lune open later into the evening. She believes there is a demand for a pastry haven in Melbourne’s CBD after dark, envisioning patrons enjoying pastries late into the night.
Maxi Lune will join the already popular Lune branches in Fitzroy, Armadale, and Russell Street, along with multiple locations in Sydney and Brisbane.
With the opening of Maxi Lune, the pastry scene in Melbourne is set to reach new heights, providing delightful treats for both avid food lovers and casual snackers alike.
