Weather Anchors Threatened: Violent Letters Target Brigitte Bédard
Several well-known weather anchors in Quebec have faced harassment and death threats over the past seven years. Reports indicate that they receive threatening letters believed to be from the same individual, yet the authorities have not apprehended the culprit.
Brigitte Bédard: A Longstanding Figure in Meteorology
Brigitte Bédard has been a weather presenter at TVA since 1999. Throughout her 30-year career in the media, she has endured multiple threats, causing her significant distress.
Receiving Threatening Letters
During an interview at a café on Sainte-Catherine Street, Bédard shared her experiences. She humorously referred to a binder she keeps as “the binder of crazy people.” However, she admitted that the contents are serious.
- Bédard mentioned, “This is the mail I have received and kept.”
- Many of the letters have been handed over to the police, due to their threatening nature.
- She noted, “There are probably even more with the police now, as some are far more violent.”
The Impact of Threats on Her Life
Like her colleagues, Bédard has received similar letters that have been reported to the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM). This ongoing harassment has taken a toll on her sense of security.
“I am more cautious now. I don’t feel comfortable presenting the weather outside,” she stated. “I never know what might happen,” she concluded, underscoring the grave concerns she has about her safety.
The issue of threats against media personalities raises questions about the safety of public figures and the responsibility of both law enforcement and society in addressing such harassment.
