Eagles Intensify Search: Jim Bob Cooter Secures Second OC Interview
The Philadelphia Eagles are intensifying their search for a new offensive coordinator amid an evolving coaching landscape. Recently, Jim Bob Cooter, currently the Indianapolis Colts’ offensive coordinator, had his second interview for the position. His initial interview was conducted virtually, but he has now met with the team in person.
Eagles Keen on Jim Bob Cooter for OC Position
Cooter has longstanding ties to Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni, dating back to their time together in Kansas City. In 2012, Cooter served as an offensive quality control coach while Sirianni worked as the receivers coach. When Sirianni took the Eagles head coach role in 2021, he brought Cooter on board as a special projects consultant.
Cooter’s Coaching Journey
Cooter has gained experience across multiple teams in the NFL:
- Colts Offensive Coordinator (2023 – present)
- Passing Game Coordinator, Jacksonville Jaguars (2022)
- Consultant, Philadelphia Eagles (2021)
- Quarterbacks Coach, Detroit Lions (2014-2015)
- Offensive Coordinator, Detroit Lions (2016-2018)
- Running Backs Coach, New York Jets (2019-2020)
- Offensive Assistant, Denver Broncos (2013)
- Offensive Assistant, Indianapolis Colts (2009-2011)
During the 2025 season, Cooter helped spearhead one of the NFL’s most effective offenses. Despite losing starting quarterback Daniel Jones due to injury, the Colts maintained a position in the top 10 for both points per game and total yards.
Connections Matter
Having worked with Shane Steichen, the head coach of the Colts, Cooter’s potential move to Philadelphia requires specific permission from Indianapolis due to league rules regarding lateral moves. In Philadelphia, Cooter would assume play-calling duties, a responsibility currently handled by Steichen in Indianapolis.
Notably, he is expected to take over the role from Kevin Patullo, who has been removed from the offensive coordinator position but remains within the Eagles’ organization.
As the Eagles continue their search for a new offensive coordinator, Cooter’s candidacy reflects the organization’s focus on hiring someone with proven experience and established relationships.
