Marwah Rizqy Returns to Parliament Next Week, Uncertain About PLQ Alliance
Marwah Rizqy is set to return to the Quebec National Assembly next week, marking her first appearance since her controversial departure nearly four months ago. Her return coincides with the resumption of parliamentary activities, yet uncertainty remains regarding her potential reinstatement in the Quebec Liberal Party (PLQ).
Return Confirmation and Background
The announcement of Rizqy’s return was made by her partner, Gregory Kelley, during a Liberal caucus meeting. Kelley, who represents the Jacques-Cartier riding and has not attended any sessions since the public fallout involving Rizqy, extended his gratitude for the warm reception from colleagues.
Rizqy’s struggles began when former PLQ leader Pablo Rodriguez formally excluded her from the party in early December. This decision was based on perceived disloyalty, particularly after she dismissed Geneviève Hinse, the former chief of staff, without prior consultation.
Support for Reinstatement
Kelley expressed his hope for Rizqy’s reintegration into the Liberal caucus, although he indicated that the final decision would rest with the new party leader. He publicly endorsed Charles Milliard, the frontrunner in the upcoming leadership race set for March 14. Currently, the only known challenger to Milliard is farmer Mario Roy, who previously received only 0.8% of the votes.
Ongoing Investigations and Concerns
Rizqy’s conflict with Hinse led to media reports questioning the integrity of the PLQ’s operations. In response, the party commissioned retired judge Jacques R. Fournier to investigate allegations surrounding questionable practices linked to the leadership race. Initially anticipated by late January, Fournier’s report is now expected to be delayed as he requests additional time for thorough completion.
Additionally, the PLQ is under investigation by UPAC, though Kelley confirmed that neither he nor his fellow representatives, Monsef Derraji, Filomena Rotiroti, and Enrico Ciccone, have yet been contacted by investigators.
Public Perception and Future Prospects
In light of potential divisions within the Liberal party, Kelley acknowledged that some former colleagues have voiced their desire for Rizqy’s comeback. He remains optimistic about moving forward, stating that he is open to discussions regarding the feelings of his colleagues.
Overall, the question of Rizqy’s future within the PLQ remains open, with significant developments anticipated in the upcoming days.
