Glasgow’s Tallest Cinema Seeks Staff for Anticipated Reopening
Omniplex has begun hiring for its Renfrew Street site in Glasgow. The chain took ownership of the building last year.
General manager vacancy announced
Omniplex released a job advert seeking a permanent, full-time general manager. The role carries a salary of £43,000.
The company’s Clydebank cinema shared the vacancy on social media. The post asked if applicants wanted to run what it described as the world’s tallest cinema.
Role and location details
The advert invites a hands-on leader to run the landmark venue on Renfrew Street. It highlights a multi-floor, premium cinema experience in Glasgow city centre.
Applicants should have a passion for hospitality, entertainment and guest experience. The position will lead operations across multiple screens and floors.
Background and recent history
Cineworld operated the Renfrew Street site until its closure in September. Staff were told the decision was out of their control.
Filmogaz.com reported that building owners planned to take back the venue. The site was purchased by Omniplex in May.
Local reaction and timeline
A petition gathered more than 600 signatures calling for the cinema to stay open. In August, staff were warned the city centre site could close at short notice.
The venue closed in September. Seven months later, Omniplex appears to be preparing to reopen.
Omniplex footprint
Omniplex operates cinemas across Ireland and the UK. Its only currently listed Scottish branch is in Clydebank.
Glasgow’s tallest cinema seeks staff as part of an anticipated reopening. The company has started recruiting to fill key leadership roles.
